Mr Paul Koch, President and owner of Corsair Marine Inc and Lawson Dixon, managing director and owner of Stompcraft Co. Ltd, have announced the formation of a new company, Corsair Marine International Co., Ltd, (CMI).
The new company is based in Vietnam, and housed in a new facility with over 5000m2 under roof, right in the heart of booming HCMC.
The new company produces of all Corsair brand trimarans and other models, as well as the Stomp38 brand, new models and products in development. CMI have an aggressive expansion strategy to take advantage of its position as sole production yacht builder in Vietnam, and the opportunities that this brings.
The new facility has a dedicated lamination shop of over 3000m2 and state-of-the-art spray and grinding booths, as well as full vacuum and resin fusion systems. Corsair and Stompcraft are renowned for the experience and expertise in the technically demanding areas of vacuum bagging and resin infusion.
The assembly area of over 1600m2 allows ample room for expansion, and in a first for the region, CMI will be setting up a dedicated rig and rigging subsidiary, housed in its own facility of 400m2 which will feature cool rooms, ovens and all the necessary equipment to run in a ‘clean’ infusion and carbon prepreg environment.
Paul Koch is Chairman of the new organisation, while Lawson Dixon is CEO.
In a joint statement the two shareholders said, “The formation of CMI is recognition that the opportunities presented by an established and world recognised brand such as Corsair, when aligned with the evident skills and welcoming business environment that has allowed Stompcraft to blossom, create an unbeatable combination and is the future of boat building.”
In addition, Chairman Paul Koch said “We have proof positive that the product we are building in Vietnam is not only equal to, but in many ways superior to the products that we used to build in the US. This offers our customers better value for money, our dealers more sales opportunities and allows the company to invest in more product development and future planning.”
Some 15 Sprint 750’s and 3 Corsair 24’s have been built since the programme in Vietnam began in late 2006. The rest of the Corsair range is now in production including the first of the exciting new Carbon 36’s for a Thai based customer.
Production at the new facility is under the direction of experienced production manager James Sganzerla, James has over 20 years boat building experience and has worked with renowned catamaran builder OSTAC in Australia as well as with Corsair in the US. James will be ably supported by lamination specialist Eddie Sanchez.
Corsair Marine will maintain it’s presence in the US, where a core team of dedicated professionals under the guidance of long term Corsair man Phil Medley ,who will run a assembly and parts facility, as well as the current sales and customer support operations for North America.
